About Us
What started as just a mother and son handing out hats to a few homeless individuals has transformed into H.U.G.S. from the Heart, an established 501-(c)(3) nonprofit, where we currently serve individuals in the Greenville, SC and surrounding areas. Since 2021 we have served over 1000 individuals.
Our Mission
No one wants to become homeless. In addition to the struggles of being hungry and without shelter, many homeless individuals feel invisible or without worth. We provide drawstring bags that contain essential clothing and personal care items. But our mission is to not only provide clothing accessories (hats, underwear, gloves, & socks) but to also remind these individuals that they are seen, valued and loved. Therefore, it's important to us that each hat be hand-knit or crocheted. We do this as a sign to the recipient that they are so worthy that a complete stranger took the time to make the hat just for them. All of the items placed into drawstring backpacks and provided to individuals at local shelters and directly to individuals in the community.
